During the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order, here is what downtown businesses in Lake Orion, MI are offering in support of the community. Part of a series of newsletters featuring businesses operating during the COVID-19 shutdown.

As a community, we have always strived to support each other; now it is needed more than ever before. Together with Main Street Oakland County, Downtown Lake Orion has created a Patronicity Crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for our businesses. Let’s meet this challenge together to support the heart and soul of our Downtown.

Every dollar donated helps our businesses in some way -  keeping the lights on, supplies stocked, rent paid - all of your support will help make a difference in the success of our businesses.

This campaign will run through June 21, 2020 at 11:45 PM in hopes that we meet our goal of raising $25,000 to be donated directly to our downtown businesses in equal amounts based on need, as determined by the DDA board. All funds will be distributed through the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester.

How your gifts will help our businesses:
  • Pay business rent/mortgage and/or utilities
  • Pay to adjust or adapt services that will allow them to operate during 'Stay Home, Stay Safe' Order
  • Buy inventory or goods; pay for other business expenses
As additional resources are revealed, they will only strengthen the effort this campaign brings.

How will the money be distributed?
Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority will use the money raised to create grants of equal amounts to be distributed to qualifying downtown businesses. Sole proprietors with 10 or fewer employees are encouraged to apply.

Businesses must meet the following criteria:
  • Businesses need to be located within the boundaries of the Downtown Development Authority: Generally, along M24 from Heights Rd. to Elizabeth St. and in Downtown Lake Orion. Click here to see the map
  • Businesses require face-to-face/in-person contact.
  • Businesses cannot be a franchise, major corporation or a publicly-traded business.

To show our appreciation of your support, the DDA will be offering up to $8,500 in Downtown Dollars and other prizes. Downtown Dollars are valued the same as cash at participating businesses. All prizes are while supplies last.
  • For every $50 received $10 Downtown Dollars
